We are a group of defense attorneys, inmates, students, and volunteers that have come together to address the systemic failures in the criminal justice system which allows for the prevalence of wrongful convictions.
The National Registry of Exoneration keeps a list of group exonerations, all tied to government misconduct since 1989, come in to nearly 38,000 (vs around 3,700 individual exonerations in same period -- many of which also came at the fault of government misconduct.)
The Commission is pushing for a need for a post-conviction review commission for the independent, objective review of the claims of government misconduct underlying both wrongful convictions and sentences. This reform would remove the conflicts of interest that prevent objective and just post-conviction review.
